Nursery children in the woods

On Wednesday 16th May, the morning Nursery children went to the woods for the whole day and on Thursday 17th May the afternoon children had their turn. They were very excited and had been for several days. They made their own sandwich in the Nursery ready to eat at a picnic in the woods. They all travelled to the woods in a minibus with their team. When they were at the woods they walked, ran, fell, climbed, balanced, hopped, skipped, jumped and then sat down for their lunch.

They looked for, and found, some tracks. They found animal tracks! They had hoped to find some tiger and dinosaur tracks but they were happy to see dog and horse footprints and some bike tracks too. They helped to mix up some plaster of Paris and then poured it into the tracks that they had found. Later, when some time had passed, they returned to find that the plaster was not liquid any more but dry and hard.

The Nursery children brought the track plaster casts back to school and they are now in the Nursery for anyone to come and see and touch carefully.

The children returned to Nursery at the end of their visit. They were very tired and most children were asleep by the end of the journey.

Science Club

This half term in Science Club we have been investigating toothpaste.  We have:

  • made our own and tested it
  • tried different brands to find out which was most effective
  • researched whether fluoride should be added to water

This week we tested different ways of cleaning our teeth using:

our finger, a brush, toothpaste, an apple, a carrot or chewing gum.

We used disclosing tablets to see which method removed the most plaque.

We found out that a toothbrush and toothpaste left our teeth cleanest.

The chewing gum left the most plaque.

Next half term Year 3/4 can come along on Friday’s from 3.15 to 4.15.  Please let Miss Smith know if you are interested.

5/6F Music

This week 5/6F completed their musical compositions using a diagram of a machine as their inspiration.

They used the radio consul to record the music so that they could listen to, edit and improve their work. They made detailed plans using numbers, words, symbols and diagrams, as have many other composers both ancient and modern.

Please look at some of the photos of our recording and listen to our music. DSCF5278DSCF5284
